Discover The White House - Breese

Tucked along 507 N 2nd St in Breese, Illinois, The White House - Breese draws you in the moment you spot its warm glow on a quiet street. Walking inside feels like stepping into a friend’s dining room—soft lighting, vintage wood tables, and the comforting hum of conversation. What stands out instantly is how locals know the staff by name, and the staff know their regulars’ favorite orders before menus even hit the table. That sense of belonging isn’t staged; it’s the kind of hospitality you only get from a place that’s been part of the community for years.

The menu here leans on hearty Midwestern flavors, yet each plate shows thoughtful balance. A recent visit started with their creamy spinach artichoke dip—bubbling hot, served with just-toasted baguette slices. Then came a classic ribeye, cooked medium-rare as requested, with a crackly sear and perfectly seasoned crust. Even the side of garlic mashed potatoes had layers of flavor, buttery without feeling heavy. According to a 2024 report by the National Restaurant Association, over 70% of diners say quality ingredients drive their return visits, and this kitchen clearly takes that to heart. The chef sources produce from farms in Clinton County, ensuring peak freshness that shows in every bite.

Talking with a couple at the next table who’ve been coming for twenty years, they shared how this diner has anchored countless anniversaries and birthdays. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come from convenience alone—it’s earned through consistency. Reviews from regional food writers often mention the same thing: attentive service without pretension, and an ability to make both travelers and locals feel at home. While larger chains dominate many nearby locations, this spot thrives on doing the opposite—slowing down, letting flavors speak for themselves, and building real connections with guests. Whether you’re here for a quick lunch or a drawn-out Sunday dinner, there’s an ease to the experience that keeps people coming back.

  • I've been to their original location, so I had to try their second one. The food was good but didn't get a lot of meat or toppings on the nachos. The pulled chicken had a very small amount compared to the size of everything at their other location. I'm a little sad about the whole thing. Hoping next time I go it will be better.

  • Let me just start with saying, these are amazing portions for the cost and the cost is NOT expensive. I got a full order of pulled pork nachos and it was $13 and my mom got a loaded baked potato with pulled pork for like $10. It was delicious! They are just opening so they don't have a lot of staff and have a note up, but even with that we were seen very quickly and our waitress was super attentive and nice. Definitely recommend giving it a whirl

  • Tried the catfish. It was perfectly cooked. Pulled pork was very good as were the beans. Mac and cheese was just ok.

  • How there isn't a line from Breese to Texas for this grub is CRAZY. The smoked potato MELITS in your mouth. The sauce is tangy and sweet all at the same time. Baked beans are the ones you dad thought he made, and you wished he did. The pulled pork has that incredible smoke flavor without the overpower flavor of just smoke. When you can make pork that is smoked and juicy, you have a license to print money. I met the owner tableside, and he wasn't wearing a wizard cape, but you could tell he had just taken it off.

  • Had to wait a little while to get our food. They did have a sign that stated they were short-handed. Had the fish and shrimp combo with fries and slaw. 2 filets and 6 shrimp and a ton of fries. Well worth the $18.

  • First I might be a little biased ( just a little) LOL 1. Food is scrumptious. BBQ out of this world. Ribs fall off bone. All hot food. Green beans, baked potatoes, baked beans etc are also all smoked for hours! 2. Portions leave you satisfied when you leave 3. Prices OMG. I’ve enclosed a menu from 5/11/25 . Where can you get 2 rib dinners 2 sides with each dinner. All for $22.95. Come on fast food costs more than that. 4. Last but not least. DONT go if you don’t want to become addicted. Because. YOU WILL BE BACK. I quarantee it Look at the size of those loaded nachos. Almost as big as the tray Think they were $7.95. Look at those rib bones they pulled right out of the meat. And that 1 lb smoked bake potato. The two of us couldn’t eat it all And when you go tell the owner Mike. Nancy Gail Robinson sent you.
